Tuesday's Thoughts

Some of the recent comments posted on the other site are very unsettling to me. In my previous post I stated that I did not think that a person's past has anything to do with the current debate; this statement includes family and friends. I hoped it was not true, but the combination of the city attorney's statements and The Des Moines Register, Pandora's Box was opened.

We need to find a common ground to try and come to a solution. Some have suggested a business plan. Let's look at alternatives that would not increase our property taxes. I would still be happy to post advertisements for the golf course if there are events/special food items that they would like advertised.

Please be warned that if there are any comments that I find offensive or out-of-bounds, I will immediately remove them.

  1. Please people, haven't enough people been hurt. If I were a betting person, we will get the same response to our problem with the Dayton Review, I hope our editor has read some of these posts and will not continue to feed into the negativity. If he does, he will be fueling the firestorm as previously mentioned in this blog. We have to have common ground! This is a lose-lose situation as it stands now. I have been hurt as many have been hurt, but I would like to find some common ground. COMMON GROUND-COMMON SENSE!!!!!!!

  2. Dayton Observer, Thank you for the clarification on posting rules.
I have said before I would like to come up with some solutions that would be reasonable. You can read my other posts. I wish that some would please post some suggestions. If would be nice if we could stay on task and issue oriented and stay away from personal attacks. Please post back. We need to start somewhere as this is not working. I wish we had a restart button so we could just push that or one of those easy buttons you see on TV.

  3. I was at the meeting last week and I remember the city attorney didnt go into Mr Benson's past record until Mr Benson himself told the city attorney to read it 2 seperate times.

  4. I believe he did this because the attorney brought up saying serious charges or something at that affect and told everyone where they could find it. Mr. Benson probably assumed it would be better to have it said so he could explain it, rather than everyone just jumping to conclusions. Also the attorney was baiting many people to respond to him the whole time.

  5. Back to the issue at hand trying to solve the cities division. Is there anyone out there that really wants to try to solve the towns fighting? Let's get back to the issue of the golf course. Can we try to solve these problems or am I the only one that wants to do this? No constructive advise, lets keep beating a dead horse so that people still remain at opposites sides of this issue. I have was at the meeting and I have listened to a cd of this meeting. This attorney was unlike any other that I have heard or seen.
I guess I take it that if no one responds with any ideas that they don't want to solve these problems and really just want to fight. This is very very sad.

  6. The lawyer needs to be replaced. I have lost confidence in him. I just listened to the cd and he did say you cannot be convicted of a felon and be on the council and then referred people to Iowa courts online. I will state this as a positive start to the healing.

  7. Keep trying Dayton Tiger; you're on the right path. Keep to the issues, keep it positive. I have faith in you. Keep at it!

  8. Why don't we talk about common sense. I have a question. Is common sense dead in America? Is common sense dead in Dayton. What's your take?

  9. You talk to anyone, they are sick and tired of the gov't. spending their tax dollars on frivalous things. This on the federal, state and local levels. So anyone in gov't will look the other way until people get so d__m mad that they revolt or vote them out. So you don't want to change or compromise on the golf course and fix our streets and not tax us for somebody else's pleasure, then you probably expect a revolt of being voted out in Nov. I visited with some pretty in the know people today and they stated in all their years, they have never seen what happened at our council meeting last Wed. That speaks volumes, I think it is time to change.

  10. Wait until election time, we could have a dust storm instead of a blizzard because all of the dirt blowing around about the candidates. No one will want to run because of all that has happened. I think now that none of the incumbants are squeky clean, and are fair game.

  11. You can't talk about common sense if you don't have it and apparently no one has it in Dayton, just like one of the post in the D.M. Register, all of the people in Dayton think that they are better than anyone else. I think they were mistaken, I know a few that don't think that way.

  12. Mayor, you do a fine job at running the meetings. Not only do you stay busy passing notes to Ms. Gallentine, but also the City Attorney prompts her from the audience. I hope you do better at your job than running our meetings.

  13. I agree on that about the mayor....I wonder what their little notes say.

  14. Maybe, meet me out behind City Hall after the meeting and will talk about creating more hate and discontent or don't you just love how we got the lawyer in our pocket.lol

  15. Did any one see a KCCI article about all the small golf courses around Iowa suffering from slow downs and losses of capital? We need to know if this happening now in our town and we are being scammed again.

  16. Does any one think the park and rec owes the citizens of Dayton a financial report on well the course is doing now, all the memberships ought to be paid by now and the shed rentals have been used and paid for now?

  17. I saw that article last week, here's the link:
    http://www.kcci.com/money/19454742/detail.html

I believe lots of courses are offering deals and I hope the 90 day payment plan helped get some more people out to the golf course.

  18. I think there are still people in Dayton that have common sense. We just really need to work on area's of coming together and using our common sense. I did read the KCCI article and saw a really really large billboard in Ames on my way home from Des Moines that is offering free golfing on your birthday. I believe that there is usually a monthly report generated that will show YTD profit and loss. Let's really be careful with threats. I do know that I have heard of other threats and I don't agree that any threats should be made.
As far as the mayor and notes being passed, I also did notice this and I think he needs to quit doing this, in may be innocent but it doesn't look the best. I realize that people need to vent. I believe in trying to come up with a solution for the division in our community. I know all of you that have posted are frustrated. I have a question. If we could somehow come together, and mean honestly and really mean it, would you be willing to try?

  19. I want to correct a sentence.
I have a question. If we could somehow come together as a collective unit and all of us are honest with each other and civil and work out a solution, would you be willing to try?
    Thank you

  20. I would how can it be done?

  21. I would like to ask one question and have it answered before I would commit. Is the golf course worth all the hurt we have done to our town?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I would like to say I have never been against the golf course, but I really don't think any piece of property is worth all of the hurt this issue has inflicted. But the hurt has happened, I know this hurt is very deep. I am a proponent of not having the taxes raised. A bandaid just won't fix this problem a stent will need to be inserted.

  23. P.S. This just cannot be accomplished by me or even a few. It will take a lot of work and it will take both sides (I really don't like saying sides, because it never should have became this divided)
