  2. Sorry not "an" very interesting meeting, but "a" very interesting meeting.

  3. I hear one of our councel members got arrested a couple week ago...anyone know anything about this?

    ReplyDelete
  4. The arrest was in Hamilton county. According to Iowa Courts Online the arrest was for consumption of alcohol in public.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I did hear about this as well. Not sure if Dayton has a policy about things like this but I hope it is brought up tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Supposedly there is a policy about a sitting councilperson and alcohol related charges. I have not read the code on that so I cannot say for sure, and the person in question has not been convicted of the charges. I have heard it is supposed to be brought up tonight. Might get interesting.

  7. So does anyone know if the councel member that was charged with public intox got brought up last night?

    ReplyDelete
  8. As usual I was on the road. I would appreciate it if someone posted what went on. One clarification. The charge is consumption in public, not public intox. One has to be careful in this town not to post incorrect info, lest the powers that be smite thee about thy head and face.

  9. The criminal complaint says "public intox".

  10. The site link didn't work. Besides who cares what they did on their time. I don't think there's anyone on here that hasn't done something stupid.

  11. I care, she took it upon herself to seek this office. She is know part of the leadership of our community. The way she conducts herself is embarassing at best. In the short time in office she has been arrested for assault while in a bar fight, and now her recent arrest and jail visit for another alcohol related charge not to mention it took place behind a utility truck at the Stratford city shed with another man it is time she RESIGNS FROM OFFICE!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I also care and agree she should resign. But the events her drinking partner has experience in the last two weeks are even more disappointing then her actions. One of middle school teachers wife was fighting in the bar the night our council person was arrested and our teacher was kicked out of the Stratford bar for urinating on a new vehicle on main street Stratford. The following weekend he take a golf cart from Dayton Golf course drove it wreckless thru a local farms fence and bean field destroying city property, the golf cart and the farmers fence and crops. As a middle school teacher this type of behavior is apauling and not the type of example we should be giving our children. This type of drunken stupidity is not exceptable if you want act like that go work in a field were this type of behavior is excepted.

  13. I heard nothing was said to the drunken drama queen at the council meeting. I also heard that Carstson had to explain the budget and how broke they are to them. Shur glad they aren't in charge of my checkbook. Then they had a closed session on the mayor terminating Mike Corson. The council gave the mayor no support on his actions and voted to pay Mike for his remaining time. The mayor even apologized to Mike for his ignorance. The mayor even had a letter from the Stapp family against Mike but the council and other citizens are on to the mayors ways and finally supported the right person.

  14. Glad to see the council broke with the Mayor on Mr. Corson's termination. I agree that the council person in question should resign. This is not the first little problem. In 2008 there was a matter involving them at the bar downtown. The case was deferred. I don't really like the idea of someone making me live under the ordinances they impose and then they feel free to ignore them. Myself, I outgrew childish behaviour like that in my early 20's.

  15. I would sure like to know where the people of Dayton, IA (which I can't say I'm proud to be from)get there information! As far as I know there was not a middle school teacher there that got kicked out of the bar for urinating on a new vehicle! And I was there taking everything all in! And yes there was a scuffle I would say not a fight! But I guess what the teacher's wife does on her own time is her business! She doesn't work for the school nor does she have any involvement in the city and their actions! And to my knowledge the middle school teacher wasn't the only one who drove the golf carts through someones field, but he is the only one who became the bigger person and admitted what he did was wrong and personally apologized to the farmer in person! So that has to stand for something! I am from here but don't spend a lot of time here and something is telling there is a reason for that!

  16. Kristi Ott--who was a regular contributor to this blog--is on her deathbed and you people are talking trash again. You should be thinking of her and offering to help her family--but--instead you are doing this. I've got an idea: all of your call Jim Heckman and volunteer your time to the rodeo this weekend. You obviously need something to fill your empty hours with and the City of Dayton could use some positive help for a change.

  17. To the 5:11 post

I don't know where you got your info but, there was no fence driven through, and no city property damaged, it was a personal cart. The only thing that was correct was the beans were damaged. The person appologized in person, and paid for the damage.

As far as his wife goes, she has nothing to do with the school or the running of the town, so what she does is none of anyones concern.

There's another council member that has done way worse than getting in a fight, and being charged with public intox. I didn't read anyone calling for his resignation after his past was reveiled.

Samadams---those are state laws not city ordinances, so she didn't impose them on you.

    ReplyDelete
  18. State law or city law is not the point. The point is, that those making the laws should abide by them, as all of us are expected to do. Be it city, county, state, or federal. Lets be real here. It is still childish and immature behavior.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Samaddams: Don't waste your time trying to speak common sense to these type of people they believe the laws don't apply to them. I guess sometimes they find out the hard way when they wonder out of Dayton. They both displayed very poor judgement and should resign and move on.

  20. These issues being discussed are current and have happened during her term MUCH DIFFERENT. I also heard today the sherriff's department is investigating the golf course incident. I hope and encourage them to pursue criminal charges. If the council person did what I read above she needs to RESIGN.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Who else was involved in the golf cart ride gone bad. please advise don't make me wait and read it in the Sherriff's report.

    ReplyDelete
  22. There was no other carts involved, and the Sheriffs office is NOT investigating the golfcourse incident. Stop blowing things out of proportion!!!!!!!

  23. I would like to say hi and that I am looking forward to . I see changes that need to happen in Dayton. I understand that there are currently some problems that are occuring and would like to hear more about them. I also understand that there is an election comming up soon and would like to run for then mayor position. A little about me: I am a college graduate with a marketing degree, I also have two teenagers who graduated and are off to college themselves. I moved to Dayton about fifteen years ago and have seen may things happen both good and bad.
Things that I would like to adress are:
1)Golf Course- this I see needs to have something happen and soon. I don't believe that it has to go away but something else needs to happen.
2)Streets- we have a lot of very bad streets. I understand that the water mains and infastructure needs to be addressed before we can repave them.
3)Grants- I am a big supporter of this type of program and know many places both State and Federally to aquire such grants. I write these types of things all the time and have not been rejected yet.
4)Emergency Services- we do have some of the best around, but I think that they can get better, again the grants. I feel that they need to be brought together and the bickering between themselves and the City needs the cease. (We are all on the same side)
4)Government- there needs to be some changes here as well. This is the area I feel that I need some more imput to understand what needs to be fixed.

I challenge everyone to give some insight to help the City of Dayton out. I feel that the changes would be positive for the City.

If there is anything anyone would like to talk with me personnally on my email is daytonrodeofan@gmail.com. I welcome these challenges and the betterment of the City.

    Thank you.

  26. Well hello again. I would like to say thank you to the Dayton Observer and Mr. Montag for putting this site together. I feel that people do need to vent and express their opinions. I have read this entire site and I must say that there are some serious problems with the City of Dayton. overnment of Dayton but with some of the people as well. There seems to be the problem of people thinking they run the government and feel that they can do anything to superceed it or undermind it at any given time. Just so you know I have done a lot of have done a lot of homework and called around to many places that have been mentioned and I must say Dayton has really left its mark with the State of Iowa.

Back to the site. It is great that people are able to voice their opinions on here and that's exactly what they are. I have seen areas on here that have been stretched out beyond recognition of the original act. Please be careful of this it can run into the area of defiling someones name or reputation. I don't think th is is what this site was intended for. I believe in free speech but there is a limit to how far you can go and there are areas in here that have surpassed that by far. i.e. Talking about a Golf Board Members wife who has absolutly nothing to do with the government of the City. Again I say be careful. I'm not taking sides I was just using this as a example. (In the event that someone would like to check)As for the otherside you need to be just as careful.

As for the post asking about who I was was and the ballot name. Just remember that you remained anonymous as well and this site allows that for now. I'm not sitting here telling you that you need to put your name on it. Granted there are times when it is needed and in here there are times where you may just want to make a point. So do not judge everyone if you can't do it yourself.

I do feel that there are problems within the City of Dayton that need to be addressed and I plan on doing just that. Keep in mind I will not be bullied or threatened into any type of decision. We need to get back to the original checks and balances that made this Country so great.

This brings out another point. There are people here that try and bully others around as well as threaten. This is unexceptable at any time. Please show your maturity and be a grown up. This goes for all parties involved. Just remember no one is perfect and everyone can make a mistake. That goes for everyone include those on the cousel and the ones that attend the meetings.

I believe that those that cause problems need to knock it off. Become a part of the solution and help without threats or bullying. If you can't be part of the solution then you may as well be quiet.

I still feel that if you want to talk with me off of this please email me @ daytonrodeofan@gmail.com

    Thank you

  27. I have not heard of many solutions here, the budget has to be balanced, the golf course losses have to be addressd and soon. There has to be some hard decisions made. Everybody needs to step up to the plate and do what is best for all of Dayton.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You are so right Anonymous. Unfortunately you will not see the current administration balance the budget or even acknowledge that the golf course losses need to be addressed. If enough people in this town would stand up and speak out maybe something could be done. Until then, it is business as usual for our ruling elite. Kind of like the current administration in White House isn't it? As long as they get what they want, they are happy.

    ReplyDelete
  29. samaddams stop assuming you know something. At the council meeting the last of august the golfcourse losses were acknowledged and the board was told to come up a plan of action. It's people in town like you, that sit around and complain, bad mouth everyone else, but don't give any ideas, or solutions to solve the problems. If you don't have anything constructive to say....then shut up!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. You want an idea? Lease or sell the golf course to start with. Or better yet, let the people that have memberships buy it from the city for what we have in it and let them run it the way they see fit. Unfortunately that was tried and it lost money then. That is how the city ended up with it. As far as not knowing anything, I am much closer to what is going on with the city's finances than anyone knows. As far as bad mouthing anyone, I have never bad mouthed anyone. Bringing up the council person's legal issues are a matter of public record. I asked the Mayor on here to respond to a few questions I had and he didn't seem to want to that. So don't even suggest that I have not been fair with all involved on here. By the way unlike yourself I have never been rude and told anyone to shut up. It did seem that every time I did speak up no one that didn't like what I said would even engage in a discussion of the issues. Just rude comments such as in your last sentence. By the way you are certainly entitled to an opinion as are all on here. So I am not going to say the same thing you did.

    ReplyDelete
  31. samaddams, You should have been at the meeting in Aug. the golf course board argued quite loudly that they should not be penalized for poor judgement on their part for the losses at the course. Until something is done to stop the losses at the course, and the council stops throwing good money after bad, nothing will stop. We do not have an itemized budget in Dayton, we have to make one so we know exactly where the taxpayers money is being wasted. Keep talking and bring up the problems, some people would just as soon see all the detractors go away. I think our biggest problem is our power hungry mayor.

  32. From one anonymous to another, VERY well put!
Mr. Adams needs to stop being so negative and help with constructive solutions instead of typing out his complaints and negativity!
If he is so set against golf, ignore it!

  33. I am responding to "anonymous" and "samaddamslite" and even the phantom mayorial candidate--something I swore I would never do again. Since my latest misfortune is officially (and inaccurately) printed in the Dayton Review, time for me to respond.
Yes--I made a mistake (again)--and although I am still not sure how it affects anyone of you, I apologize to anyone that it has truly hurt. So--Richard--sorry for any heat you have taken for your rogue council member. Randy--sorry if you have been bombarded with questions. My family--sorry (once again) for being an idiot and getting in trouble.
"Anonymous" et al--Gee I'd like to apologize to you, but since you are too chickenshit to sign your name, I'm afraid I have no idea how my latest indiscretion had any effect on your life.
What I do want to tell you is the effect this blog is having on members of the Dayton Community's life. Because of some of your recent nasty postings, there are families in Dayton that are looking to move and others that have "washed their hands" of the city of Dayton. This means they will not volunteer to help at local functions (like the rodeo) and will not contribute to local events and charities, as they feel victimized by "Dayton." I try to say that this blog is NOT Dayton--only about three bored old men with nothing better to do that try to hurt others--but they can't see past the nastiness.

Is that what you want "samaddamslite" and others--for people to MOVE from Dayton and stop donating their time and energy to make Dayton a better place? Do you want people to avoid moving to Dayton because of the turmoil? How--in Heaven's name--does this make Dayton better?
I conclude that you cowards to do not want to make Dayton a better place, but just want to bitch and moan and tear down and this (somehow) makes you feel better. Sad.

I have always believed that flawed individuals (and I am REALLY REALLY flawed) can still make positive contributions. I, personally, have a knack for all sorts of writing, including grant writing and column writing. That is why I choose to remain on the city council, even though it is probably the most stressful thing I have ever done and why I continue to write my column, even though it occasionally backfires on me.

You say "she took it upon herself to seek the office"--umm, WRONG. I was a write in and was urged from every side to "just say no." I chose to fulfill my obligations because I firmly believe that if you are called, you serve. I sincerely believe I have done more good for the City of Dayton than harm--including over $15,000 worth of grants and donations to the city.

I want you to realize what I have given up to serve on this council. For one, I had to graduate a whole semester late because the last class I needed was only offered on Wednesday night. So I spent one more semester in school, which cost me well over $1,000 dollars.

Secondly, my indiscretions are cause for public discourse--much more so than any other "public" figure. For example, I can think of two community leaders in the past year that were ticketed for OWI (much worse than my charge) but they weren't featured in any newspaper or blog. Hmmm--makes you think.

Thirdly, the meetings themselves are very stressful and cantankerous--something that, quite frankly, I do not appreciate or enjoy.

    cont.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I have always been pro Dayton. This means that I shop locally, support local charities and groups, and do what is asked of me to benefit my community. I also believe that even a flawed person--a messed up person who makes more mistakes than your average bear--can still make contributions. I suppose I could run away--stop volunteering to help at community and school functions, quit the city council (and cause the city to spend more money on an election)--I could hide in shame (and I do feel shame, don't think for a moment I don't)--but I think that would be a waste a good mind and a two hands that want to make things better.

Right now the city needs to find $60,000 in their budget to cut. I went through the budget thoroughly and have several ideas to make this cut. I also have several grants out there for which I am awaiting response.

I originally thought this blog could be a motive for positive change. I believe that Kristi Ott would have made this be so if she was well enough. However, this blog has become a horrible source of negativity and downright lies--and the sad thing is that most of the people you are slamming are the ones that are volunteering on boards and as youth coaches and at church--while you sit in your garages and coffee shops and ruin lives.

All of you--ask yourself--what is your motivation?? I think I have proven that is not the betterment of your community. Were you all shunned in high school and this is your chance to be a big man on campus (although anonymously)? Has all your family deserted you because, quite frankly, you are a horses ass and no one wants to be with you--and a computer screen is your only friend. Are you just freakishly bored and just need a good hobby? I ask: WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?? I may be very flawed and make some incredibly bad decision, but I would never, NEVER say the things you say (even anonymously) to even my worst enemy. I would never want someone to feel how you make me feel. Pretty sure Jesus would back me up on this one--"Do unto others, etc. etc etc."

I pray to God every day to help me through this and lead me to make better choices. I also pray for Dayton and its citizens. What do you pray for??? kendra
