  4. I think this blog just needs to die once and for all. It has done nothing but give a place where some unethical, immoral people can spew their hate, mis-information, and all out lies. This is the place where if you can't come up with facts you just make stuff up. I also heard about the post earlier that was deleted by administration, thank you for that. I just wonder if the person that posted would have the guts to say it to that persons face, or are they just tough when they can hide behind this blog as anonymous. There's a name for people like that and it starts with the word chicken.

KILL THIS BLOG NOW BEFORE IT CAUSES ANYMORE HATRED!!!!!!! FOR THE SAKE OF THE TOWN KILL IT!!!!

  5. I hope people come out in support of county contract. This will save alot of money and Dayton has a huge deficit to make up. It will also stop all the cowardly and sneeky retaliation going on in this town. If you don't think this is happening ask Mr. Corson he addressed in his letter.

  6. Getting rid of the Police Dept. would be the dumbest thing this town could do. And this decision should not be up to council it should left up to a city wide vote. Because there are two members on the council that don't represent me, and you know who I'm talking about. If it's going to be decided it should be decide by all citizens.

I for one am getting pretty damn tired of their witch hunting.

  8. I don't believe public safety is something that should be compromised.......we need the police department to remain. While the sheriff's office does what they can (and they do a good job)....truthfully, small towns are left to their own devices most of the time. Frankly being in the southeast corner of the county we would not be patrolled the way most of us are used to and the personal aspect would be diminished by not having someone who has a vested interest in the community. Typically, I believe there are only 2 deputies on duty most of the time to cover quite a large area. I will not support county contract law enforcement.

  9. I'm going to repost this seeings how it seem's to be a popular topic, Just because Mike wrote this letter does NOT mean everything or anything in it is based on fact.

  10. Cindy: A few weeks ago your son accuses the Police Chief of not working very many hours and cheating on his time card, having hit list against citizen, not working with other area police dept, not cooperating with drug busts and several other points of interest which way do you and your family want it ???

Hmmmmm.....If you are that interested it would be great to see you at the council meeting. Seems you have information that was given to the mayor, police chief and council members but obvious to me that you do not know the whole story. I will not use this forum to debate with you since you fail to disclose your name as I always do. You may certainly send me a message if you would like.

  12. There is a meeting tomorrow night my guess is very few people will show up. Dayton people only speak in coffee shops and blogs not enough guts to speak out publicly. If they show up they just sit there, I only know a few people that are man enough to speak up and they have been very quite for some time.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I'm pretty sure I'm "man" enough to speak up--but I am woefully out of the loop. You'd think as a council member I'd know more--but I'm in the dark. I haven't read the second letter, wasn't invited to the "city leader" meeting regarding the county taking over law enforcement, and basically am as much in the dark as your average citizen. What should this tell you? That NO ONE knows what is going on in its entirety. There is a lot of rumor and innuendo going on out there. BE CAREFUL I say before we get too carried away.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Cindy: If I don't know the whole story then post the letter for everyone to read or do have to hide the truth about our mayor and police chief now they gave mike his job back!!!!!

I am feeling a little bit 'attacked' at this point. I would not post the letter even if the situation were different....as stated earlier, it would serve no useful purpose. Please, come to the meeting and find out for yourself. I truly believe that Mike and Chris both, in their own way, want what is best for the community.

  16. theatregoddess; thanks for your posts. i also think the rumor mill is going at full speed. welcome to small town living. i still believe the good greatly out does the bad.

to some of the other posts, rumors were just as bad without this bloog, at least some postives are pointed out and give food for thought. i personally would rather see dayton keep a police department.

listen to mr montag and keep it cool. acting like adults helps and treating others like we want to be treated is the key. dayton tiger

  18. My last comment came up missing so I will try again. Chris has done more than most of you know for the town of Dayton. He has arrested more people than any other Chief over the same time period, including meth users and dealers. Risked his life for the town. My opinion the town of Dayton gets off cheap with what they pay him. Please stand behind him. Mike I hate to say needs work, wear your seatbelt and a reserve can not replace a certified officer....

    ReplyDelete
  19. I agree that when Chris leaves we will again be without a certified officer and this is not a good thing. I don't want to see the police dept. go but can not support a group of non certified guys running the town. Would it be possible to go county contract while he is gone then return to normal when he comes back??? I feel this is a win win solution.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I think it has been forgotten that when
Chris was gone last time he had a department to come back to. In my opinion it would be difficult to get back to our own department after a year if going to county contract. By the way, Michael is a state certified reserve officer. Please come to the meeting and hear for yourself. Don't take the gossip as gospel. And for Anonymous 10:56 PM......Never have I asked for Chris to be fired....Not sure where you got that information....Don't agree with him on everything but wouldn't this be a boring place if everyone agreed on everything. See ya at the meeting!

  21. Hence the word "RESERVE"

    ReplyDelete
  22. mybe gowrie and dayton should go together and send our reserve officer to the acadamy. wouldnt that sove part of the problem.

    ReplyDelete
  23. It don't matter if mike is a state certified "RESERVE" he can not replace a certified full time officer read the "IOWA LAW" Everyone must remember he is only a "RESERVE" and there is "LAW" governing what he can do!!! Having three non certified police officers is a huge liability and an accident waiting to happen!! Did we not learn anything last time Chris was gone????

  25. Cindy you say, "I feel like I have lowered myself to “mean anonymous blogger” level." But yet here you are still posting on here and in may's topic. If your truely annoyed stop blogging. And lord only knows how many times you've said Mike can fight his own battles but how many times has it been you fighting for him, in here, in our council meetings, on the dayton sidewalks? Also, you say remarks like how you believe chris also has the towns best interest at heart but you have single handedly tried to get chris fired at places like city council meetings. Then you say you wouldn't want to happen to chris's family what happenend to your family so many years ago, but thats exactly what your doing by continueing this tireing rant. Let it be, and let your son fight his own battles. O and I WILL be at the city council meeting speaking out for what is right. Im reposting as it keeps being deleted...

    ReplyDelete
  26. He didn't do such a good job last time if I remember right. Mike and the mayor got our town a huge black eye we even made the tv news and several newspaper. NOT the kind of publicity we need>

    ReplyDelete
  27. LOL, why does everything i put in here keep being deleted, Im not using any perfanity. Give me a break im making good points here.

  28. Seriously admin... Can i please have my last post back? I worked hard on those comments... =S

    ReplyDelete
  29. Let me see if I can put this in a nicer way so I can stop being deleted like what ever I have to say isnt good enuff to be put on here..
The last time Chris and the other officer wayne left on deployment Mike stepped in and in all honesty did a fairly good job. It was after chris and wayne came back that things got nasty. Mike wanted to remain in the position he was in and who can blame him. But instead mike and his family started giving Chris,Richard, and the city council a hard time with everything from pay all the way up to these letters. When something wasnt done to mikes satisfaction he ran to Richard, when that no longer worked he ran to the city council when he realized this was no longer working he put in his resignation. Mike wanted a postion as chief in Dayton knowing full well they'd have to certify him first (which is all he truely wanted then he would've skipped to another town that pay'd better)but when things didnt tear as easily as he thought they would he finally gave up. But not with out leaving a big red flag in front of everyone first to stir things up because he didnt get what he wanted.

    ReplyDelete
  30. 11:31pm The chief had everythingset before he left last year that is what he told the mayor ans the council. This is fact not fiction.

    ReplyDelete
  31. So because everything is set means no work has to be done when your a police officer? He did make it as easy as he could for mike and the other reserve before he left. I'm not understanding what that has to do with anything.

    ReplyDelete
  32. There must have been a mis-communication there seems to be alot of them in this town. I think this is what these people call it when they have been caught in a lie!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. It's funny when I moved into this town just a few years ago, I thought wow the perfect lil town to raise a family. Where everyone knows each other and if my children ever needed anything they could go to almost any door and know who lived there. The community feeling WAS wonderful, but im honestly scared to raise my children in a town that is now so torn.

    ReplyDelete
  34. it seems to me as if the chief is posting on here anonymously? i can tell you for a fact that michael truely loves everything he does in his work. it was the hardest thing in his life to put that resignation in. and i know for a fact that michael has turned down jobs in other towns to stay here. he doesnt want to be the chief in dayton. he is just here to help because he has family and friends here that he feels he needs to try and protect. and it was benson who told michael himself that he would rather see the city go to county contract than to hire two "greenhorns" to take care of this city while chris is gone again. that is why michael chose to take back the resignation. it has nothing to do with who does a better job or who is more liked here. i think michael and chris have some differences on some issues but they are both working on the same goal. to take care of the town and the people in it with the best of faith. chris has gone to the academy but that dont make michael any less of an officer when hes in the same uniform. he has put in a lot of years now in law enforcment and is trying to find a way out of it because of this towns few people that want to stir the pot. If you have a legitimate complaint about the officers then why dont you talk to them face to face. how can a person improve if they dont know? this is not the place for this and it only makes the moral of the city employees worse. GROW UP GETA LIFE AND GET OFF THE COMPUTER! goodnight

    ReplyDelete
  35. First of all, I AM NOT THE CHIEF... and second of all what gives you any right to tell me what to do? Didn't realize I had a bed time! I can say things I do because I honestly see everything been done from the right angle. I have said the things I feel to the people involved I'm not a coward who sits behind the computer with my thoughts. To prove it again I will repeat my self in this, I will be at the city council meeting.

  36. I have not said ONCE that Mike was any less an officer then Chris, just simply that Mike cannot preform the same tasks as chris. It has been mike to cause problems between him and chris. If mike would do as he's told (because mike isnt chief and has to follow direction, this is where if goes back to the not being to preform the same tasks) there wouldnt be these issues. But again instead mike gets told what he has done wrong and he runs to someone over chris's head which is his first mistake. Again this goes back to when chris first came back from kosovo and mike started stepping on toes not wanting to follow orders given, Not sure if this can really be UN done.

    ReplyDelete
  37. asking questions of what mike was told to do is not going over someones head. and the only exception to what chris can do and to what mike can do only applies to an owi arrest. for someone to thinks they know the laws you dont know anything. did you go to the academy? are you a state certified reserve officer? what law school did you go to?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Do you not know how to read? I said mike goes to other ppl when hes been told NOT TO DO SOMETHING. As far as the OWI arrest and what can and cannot be done on mikes be half from what your saying is BS, MIKE CANNOT ACT be a chief as a RESERVE officer. AND WHO IN THE * said i was in the acadamy or went to any school of law? Where are you pulling this from? O and its called KNOWING the laws THANK YOU

    ReplyDelete
  39. A reserve officer, must be supervised by a certified officer, 80D.9 Supervision of reserve peace officers.
Reserve peace officers shall be subordinate to regular peace officers, shall not serve as peace officers unless under the direction of regular peace officers, also according to the ILEA, must be able to have direct contact with a certified officer. Which the ILEA has sad could be a phone call.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I wanted to make that clear. A reserve Officer is just a stand in, that must be supervised. If you have a problem with this call the ILEA.(Iowa Law Enforcement Academy) They will tell you the same. Yes, in small towns this gets abused but it dont make it right. Mike has two Chiefs and the Deputies that help him when he needs it. I believe Dayton either needs to contract with the county till Chris gets back or have a certified officer come in, otherwise I feel the town will fall apart if they allow Mike to be an acting Chief, which he cant be.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Reserve officers are not allowed to perform anything dealing with implied consent. You are right a reserve officer must be under the DIRECT SUPERVISON of a certified officer to perform any duties. I believe the city of dayton has a new attorney maybe she should interupt this law. The ILEA is also under all new direction and I believe it may be in the best interest of the city to see where they stand on this issue.

  45. You people need to get a life and stop worrying about other people. Chris is doing a great job protecting the city and serving his country. I know few people with as much courage as him. Those individuals that have nothing better to do than spread rumors and falsehoods should be ashamed. The few individuals that have a problem shouldn't hide on a blog and claim the outrageous. Get a life.

  47. It was always my interpretation that this blog could be used as an agent of progress in the town of Dayton. A public forum where people could constructively express and debate their views. Now, I have let this experiment of people anonymously saying whatever they want run long enough. I'm tired of the pot stirrers. I'm tired of the flat out liars. I'm tired of the endless bad mouthing of people no matter how little or much they have done to anyone else. I'm tired of illogical and underhanded attacks at people. I'm tired of public humiliation of everyone. Whether it be the mayor, Chris, or any of the councilmen. Browbeating was never the intent of this blog.

I'm not shutting down the blog. That would be to simple for my liking. No, I'm making it so you can only post with an account. Hopefully this will end the countless amount of times people get mixed up who they are talking with. So to those of you who will no longer post, I say farewell. To those who wish to stay and be constructive in this forum of discussion I welcome you and wish you good luck.
