Sorry for the lack of posting lately, but I should get a new post up later this week. I have had a lot of things going on, but I have been monitoring the blog and am very happy about the progress people have made on ideas. I've always believed that this blog can be a breeding ground for ideas that can help support our community. With that being said I also believe we can all handle the constructive criticism that comes with anything involving politics and remember we all want the best for Dayton.
Some ideas to discuss: The last council meeting and the community New Year's Eve celebration.
Just a reminder if anyone has any ideas for the blog or questions for me my email address is: dayton451@gmail.com
Also I would like to thank Cindy Corson for posting a review of the council meeting in the last post's comments section. Here is her review of the meeting:
ReplyDelete1. Library USDA Grant Application was approved
2. Well Project and Water Main Project was discussed. Eldon Rossow and Brian from MER Engineering were there to discuss plans. Special meeting on December 16th at 7:00 PM to go over those plans and answer questions and make changes in an effort to get the plans ready for bid letting in February 2010.
3. Information about the inspection of the First American Bank Building will be available at next meeting.
4. Public hearing about assessing delinquent utility charges and property clean up charges
5. Second reading of Ordinance 236 (water rate increase) and Ordinance 237 (sewer rate increase) were passed with the 3rd and final reading to be at special meeting 12/16.
6. Civil Rights Commission Hearing was postponed due to weather and has been rescheduled.
7. Discussion about employee certification increases with the possibility of instituting a tier system.
8. Approved lift station pump maintenance agreement.
9. Two building permits were approved and discussion about the possibility of revising current city ordinance in regard to possible municipal infraction if building permit not obtained prior to start of project.
10. 2010-2011 budget discussion
11. Employee health insurance plan options were available for members to review
12. Discussed vehicle impoundment fees
13. Stop Sign Ordinance-a couple stop signs not in compliance with code
14. Approved adding minimum text messaging plan to police chief cell phone. This will aid in investigations.
15. Old city cell phones will be donated to VFW donation program.
16. Abstained from Iowa Public Agency Investment Trust Meeting vote
17. Decided not to hire outside agency to provide employment handbook.
18. Pet Clinic-I believe will be held in January. Watch Dayton review for dates/times.
Also I would like to say in my opinion we should all try to support the idea of a community and family oriented New Year's Eve celebration.
Hi, Sorry I was out of commission again. I hope this is the last time. I am still really excited about the positivie progress of the New Years Eve party. Thanks Mr. Montag for your postings, I completely agree. I hope this is the beginning of the healing of Dayton.
ReplyDeleteAwfully quiet on here. Anyone know anything new?
ReplyDeleteWas there a meeting last night? If there was does anyone know what it was about.
ReplyDeleteMost of the meeting was discussion on the water main project and the initial plans proposed by MER engineering. They also passed the 3rd readings for the water rate and sewer rate increases and the 2nd readings of the vehicle impoundment and stop sign ordinances. Discussion was also held on the 2010 employee insurance and the lift station pump agreement.
ReplyDeleteHope to see a good turnout for the Community New Year's Eve Party at the Community Center 8-midnight. We hope to have karoake, games, movies, crafts for the kids, snacks and chili. This is meant to be a family event so parents or grandparents are asked to accompany youth under the age of 16. This is an alcohol free party. If able, please bring a snack to share.
Cindy Corson
Cindy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the information. I understand the water main project is quite an undertaking.
The Community New Years eve party sounds great. If it is alright with you I could call you and see what else we can help with. Let me know.
I'm not sure I can make the party--tons of conflicts arising. SO--what can I do to help in advance. Can I write an article? Donate anything? let me know

Cindy,
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of snacks would you like us to bring. I'll bring several different ones, let me know what else I can bring. I think this is so great.
I could make some chili also if you need more.
ReplyDeleteI think you can bring whatever kinds of snacks you would like. It is difficult to know how many people to plan for but I'd rather have too much than not enough. I'll make a couple 18 quart roasters full of chili and have bowls, spoons, and crackers. I am getting some craft stuff together for kids to do; we'll have karoake, board games, movies, and a mock champagne toast at midnight to start off our new year. If you have board games, you could bring those (even duplicates would be nice in case multiple groups want to play the same game). Can you think of anything else we might want to include? Bring your singin' voice......I think it could be a great time!

Can anyone think of any inexpensive children's crafts that we can do? It'll be quite a feat to keep the children entertained for 3-4 hours. I really would like to see this be a community shindig so am open to everyone's ideas. Thanks, everyone!

I wonder if Walmart of Hobby Lobby would donate some craft stuff. I know that they have for other things that are non profit. Maybe for the older kids could they do those potholders. They take some time to weave in and out. I know you can make those refrigerator magnets and stuff but it has to be baked. I'll keep thinking and check online for some ideas. I know 3-4 hours is quite a while to keep kids occupied. We have some games we can bring.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to have it be a community shindig. Have you talked to Kendra, advertising would be nice to get the word out. I know of this other lady here in town that might have some idea for crafts. I'll check with her and post back.

ReplyDeleteThis site had some kind of neat ideas for stuff to make that would be more reasonable.
Thanks for your help, DaytonTiger. There are posters out at the grocery store, post office, Caseys and the library. Kendra mentioned doing an article and I think that would be great...Thanks, Kendra! I have beads to make bracelets, birdhouses to be decorated, bookmarks to be designed, 2010 glow in the dark tattoos, and zoo magnets to make. I also have crowns with some stick on jewels to make for new year's eve headgear. I also have noise makers for the midnight hour but opted out of the confetti for obvious reasons. Anyone on here please save their glass jars with lids so the kids can make 'stained glass' banks or pencil holders. I also have lots of coloring books and colors that some of them may want to use. Thank you everyone, for your ideas to make this successful.

I'll have to go in and see the posters, I haven't gotten around and out much but will check out the posters. Thank you for all of your work, I know it's not easy. I will check and see if anyone I knows has some extra glass jars.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else who reads the blog have any glass jars or any games or craft items. Even if you would like to make a donation to this party and give it to Cindy, I know it would be greatly appreciated. Think of everyone this party is helping. Thanks
