Comments, part 2

I have noticed quite an uptick in comments these past few days on an array of topics. I want to remind everyone to be respectful as this medium is an opportunity to provide you a voice in local government.

These past two days, I have especially noticed comments directed at city services. I am not sure if these comments are any way related to the comments stating that this blog should be shut down or mere coincidence of timing.

I believe we can still have a civil discourse regarding the community. However, if you do not enjoy reading the blog, please do not read it. If you post, please be respectful in your position, and I would hope people with the opposite position would be just as respectful.

Also, I deleted the last posting to give the comments a new slate.

  1. Thank you for deleting the last postings. I have tried to convince people to be civil and look at this for what it is. It has gotten worse over the last several days, I will say that I did miss the postings after the 3rd until the 10th. I am probably not sorry that I did.

I think that the blog can still be effective without attacking people personally. Is that not what we should have been doing all the time, trying to find solutions not attacking each other viciously at times. Let's go on and try to continue to fix the problems in Dayton not create more. Let's try for solutions not attacks. I want to thank everyone who has responded to my posts positively. I really do believe that there is a chance for our community to heal and to heal with all of the current city leaders and with all of our current residents of the community. Let's work together and fix the problems. I know that because I am a little older than most that it takes me a while to get some of the humor on the blog so please give me a little time. Thanks

Let's remember all of this started about a year ago with the some negative publiicty and it did not come from the blog, the blog was started later if I do remember right. So let's learn from experience and drop all the negative stuff and see what can happen.

  2. I still think that the D.O. should get rid of the anonymous posting option. And make bloggers have an "about me" page with who they really are. And contrary to a previous post it can be done, as is the case on other blogs.

I feel this is the only way to have constructive, legitimate debates. When people are able to hide behind anonymous posts and user names they tend to become more aggresive because no one knows who they are. They can say anything no matter how hurtful, irrational, or erroneous. As has been the case with the posts of the past few days.

If this isn't done then you need to suspend the blog site. For the good of the city and it's people.

I do think there are people on this blog that trually want to find solutions to the problems. But, they are being hindered by the few that don't want to fix anything they just want to be negative and nasty.

    Fix it or suspend it.

  4. Hey why should I do it if no one else is going to? What's good for one is good for everyone.

Why didn't you post your name smartass?

  5. Hey hey

as someone who has watched this most of the day with a certain degree of fascination--I post my name every single time I log in.

So does Cindy Corson and Kevin B did earlier on. Let's not sa "no one else"

  8. D O you're not going to start selective editing are you?

I hope not. As long as the post is not being abusive it should stay.

  9. I agree that the blogsite could provide a venue in which one can express their personal opinion and offer suggestions. I choose to sign my name so no one need question how I stand on a given topic. I respect other people's opinions and understand that not everyone wishes to divulge who they are. I guess I'm okay with that as long as it doesn't become a lynching party.

  10. Today has been a very interesting day on the blog. I do agree that this can provide a venue of our personal opninons. I agree with the lynching party. I feel that there has been a effort to shut down the blog by doing some of the silly antics of the last several days. It does not appear to me that this is going to work. I have noted that all along tha the D.O. has not taken a stand and has stayed middle of the road. As far as the posts that have been removed, I have not seen all of them but I could assume that they were pretty abusive as some have in my opinion been more than abusive. I do know know that many have signed their names. I could sign mine but have chose just to remain the Dayton Tiger because I am who I am and just like to post under the Tiger. I know that many probably do know who I am and I am o.k. with that also. Let's keep up the good postings and over shadow those negative one.

  11. Thank you to mayor Richard Travis and council members Paula Gallentine, Kevin Diehl, Kendra Breitsprecher, and Norm Vegors for the much more professional meeting tonight. They did not always agree with each other but in disagreeing they remained respectful.

  12. Cindy what was the city employees at the council meeting? Anything to the rumors that two were going to quit? What else went on?

    ReplyDelete
  13. There were no employees that resigned...rumors were just that. Made decision regarding an inspection of the bank building, made decision on repair of wall on building on south main street, first reading of water/sewer rate increases, amended building permit was approved, will be looking at the possibility of a requisition type system for city purchases in an effort to save money, set the public hearing for a library USDA grant application, discussed a funding request for the Webster County Emergency Management Agency, approved payment for required bridge inspections, allowed a credit for a citizen sewer charge (water used had not gone into sewer system), will get required permits to remove tree on parking, approved purchase of radar equipment for police department through approved STEP program (reimbursed in full through government program-no cost to the city), approved installation of brakes for city vehicle.

  14. Thank you Cindy for the report on the meeting. Because of certain circumstances I was not able to attend and I really do appreciate the report. I thought that the rumors were that, just rumors, I think a certain group of people are wanting to cause unrest at this time. Thanks for the positive report and I appreciate those of us that are staying above these silly and childish statements. Thanks I appreciate everything.

  17. We should be happy we have a police force that actually cares about our town and our safety. The police department has done great things for this town like the bike rodeo, talking at the school and, handing our glow stick to kids for halloween. I would rather live in a town that the laws are enforced rather than a town with no cop.

    ReplyDelete
  18. to 10:00

Are you the same poster that thinks we need to follow the city employees around to make sure they're doing their job? The same one that thinks the fire dept. goes to fires drunk? The one that thinks the emloyees are getting all the free stuff? Cause if you are, you're either trying to start trouble or you are a moran.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Does 10:00 realize how much our insurance rates would go up in town if we got rid of our police dept.?

    ReplyDelete
  20. we do need to keep a close watch on the employees. They are doing things that are costing us way too much money.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I've lived in a small town without a Police force in Webster County. It drives down the taxes. It also drives in people who like to break the law without consequences. It also drives in people who won't give a dime for the betterment of the town, they wouldn't have enough money for drugs if they did.

Do you also realize what type of liability the city comes under if the town cop turns his head while when someone drives drunk or speeds through town and causes an accident that permanently injures or kills another?

If you are driving around following our city employees and volunteers for no better reason than to dig up shit on them and start trouble, go ahead and move to one of these small towns that doesn't have a police force and minimal city employees. We'll be glad to bid you farewell and you'll have a challenge to find what you want to bitch about in the new town.

Please; keep a police force in this town along with a quality city department and pay them a fair wage so we can recruit and retain the best people.

    ReplyDelete

If you've got nothing better to do than watch the city employees Knock yourself out. I've got better things to do than keep an I on what they're doing. I think you're just being a dumbass.

    ReplyDelete
  23. To the anonymous posters who are commenting negatively about our city employees and volunteer fire department: Please remember who the first people you will call when you have an issue with your water or electricity-the Dayton maintenance department; the first people you will call when someone has run into your car or burglarized your home-the Dayton police department; the first people you will call when your home is on fire-the Dayton volunteer fire department; and the first people you will call when you have a medical emergency-the Dayton rescue personnel. I believe you will not find a more dedicated group of individuals who will keep the peace, maintain your city services, protect your family and home, and provide emergency services.

    Cindy Corson

  24. I do not think that anyone is out watching our city employees. I think that people are also still playig games on the blog. I think that if you took a poll you would find the most respect for all of our emergency services. They do a wonderful job and are really there when when we need them. I would like to thank all of the people who give so much in each of these areas I know they have helped me and my loved ones and will continue to help others.
    THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  25. Dayton Tiger - I totally agree that we have GREAT city employees, emergency services, police dept, schoos etc. The vast majority of our town very much appreciates them.

Unfortunately, there is someone it town doing these things. It's not a silly game on the blog, its a sad truth. Since he's a big supporter of this blog, we can hope he reads this and realize he's causing more damage than good and stop it.

  26. I left this blog 6 months ago because of the negative postings on here. Curosity over came me and decided to log back on, and guess what? It's still full of negative blogs and hate ful people! If you care about your town, GET OFF THE BLOG AND START MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR TOWN, VOLUNTEER AND BE A PART OF SOMETHING INSTEAD OF HATEFUL PEOPLE!!!!!

  27. you people really need to get with the rest of us and try and see all the mis allocation of money and city expenses. employees getting away with whatever they want and using the city property as their own we need to stop the pilfering and make the employees pay for their negligent practices.

    ReplyDelete
  28. To 9:44

Unless you've got proof of wrong doing by the city employees--you need to stop posting about it.

Hear say and rumors are not facts. And until you can show us proof then I for one don't want to read about it anymore.

If your not part of the solution
    You're part of the problem

You mean the REST OF YOU that voted for Brad Carstenson.

You mean the REST OF YOU that think Kevin B. with his grand standing and Norm V. with his in your face attitude are just what the city council needs.

You mean the REST OF YOU that have done nothing in the past year or so, but rip apart the town with YOUR negitive attitudes, YOUR half truths, and YOUR out and out lies.

You mean the REST OF YOU that do nothing but complain about everything.

You mean the REST OF YOU that don't get involved, don't come up with solutions, just don't do a damn thing but ridicule the people that are involved.

If that's what the REST OF YOU are all about, I want nothing to do with the REST OF YOU!!

  30. I would suggest that we need to start tightening our belt like the rest of the state. The city needs to take a look spending money on the absolute essentials and cutting spending in other places. This would lower our taxes, putting money back into our pockets.

    ReplyDelete
  31. what are your suggestions 11:37 i agree but with the council that we have that will never happen. they want to spend all the money on their private golf course and then use their lawyer to bash us.

If you think the council is so bad, why didn't you get off your deadass and run for council?

You surely didn't think that Brad was going to get elected. With his election track record it's pretty obvious that no one wants him.

I guess you've got three choices, make that four.
    1)move out of town
2)run for council in the next election
3)DO what you've been doing and sit on your ass and complain
    4)shut the hell up

I'll bet you'll do #3 cause that's what the majority of the people on this blog do. Sit on their ass not getting involved. And complain about what people that are involved are doing.

IF YOUR NOT PART OF THE SOLUTION
YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!!!

  35. i'd leave that one alone! now you want to attack someone that is putting a business in town. that's low. did you ever think that maybe the contractors that they wanted were busy and they had to use who they could get and get the business running. watch out or you'll get burned. i say good job Robyn... glad to see you rebulding here. We know you could have gone somewhere else but you chose Dayton. for the idiot in 2:23 you guys are always talking about what if a business wants to come to town, now one returns and you do this. no wonder why it's hard to try and sell Dayton. I think that maybe you should come up with an application for Dayton and then you can decide who or what goes here. i bet you'll make the place look like Lehigh or Pilot Mound.

  39. Does anyone really know how much our City employees make. Wages, benefits, memberships, other free things they are getting from the City. I have heard that they are getting discounts on water rates as well on eletrical rates.

  40. I think they get free golf memberships and use of the golf carts.

  41. I am new to the community and i have heard about this blog. Can anyone tell me why I should even stay in Dayton. This place looks nice on the outside but as I look into it more and more it is seemingly very angry and upsetting. It seems that you want to have new things but there are people out there making it very difficult. On the other hand it seems that the City is out of control. Can anyone explain to me what is going on and why I shouldn't look for somewhere else to live. i have found a nice house to purchase but I want to know more before I make a commitment to this town. As you can see I do research things and I want to have the best opportunity for my kids.

    ReplyDelete
  44. 4:24 Isn't that something that you should confirm before you go out and make the accusations? This is where you need to have the correct facts instead of those that have been fabricated or skewed. By asking the question instead of playing the telephone game you may get a better answer.

    Duane Cummins

    ReplyDelete
  45. I agree. False accusations shouldn't be made. You need to ask the right questions to the right people. Mr. Vegors and Mr. Benson should know the answers to these questions or are they too wound up in this whole thing to see things clearly? By all means come to the Council Meeting and ask the question to the Council and then go to the Parks Board meeting and ask them. I think they are having one here soon. If you need to ask the City Clerk. He will always give you an honest answer. Don't go out there all half cocked and stick your foot in your mouth. Don't hide behind this blog and expect to get answers. You aren't exempt from what you say on here even though you make your comments anonymous.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Mr. Hollister:

Please don't look at what is on this blog to be the real Dayton. There are caring compassionate people here......people wanting the town to succeed. It is unfortunate that the loud negative people are giving the city a bad rap. Please consider moving to Dayton and perhaps you can be a positive influence here.

    Cindy Corson

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ok.......let's put a halt to the rumors about the city employees discounts on water and electricity......absolutely not true. Golf memberships and use of the golf carts....again, not true. Some of you on here are not painting a very nice picture of Dayton right now. I have been called naive before but even with our differences I believe none of us wants the city to fall apart..........or at least I know I don't. Let's call a truce and if you have questions, ask the people that can give you a truthful answer. I have never been given a dishonest answer by the city clerk. Attend a council meeting and ask questions. Let's stop with all the mudslinging.

  50. Dayton is a very good community to raise your children. I know that those that have been fortunate enough to live here and utilize the school system have been very happy.

Kendra, I agree I hope the last person standing during this rock throwing fiasco is a woman. Would be great. Since I seem to be having a "Senior moment" or something tonight. Do you think we are seeing expiring writers with screen names on the blog or is it me and I just can't put the right words to it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Would everyone please quit throwing around the clearly false rumors and the funky names that are being used. Quit playing the games. I don't think your plan of attack is going to work. Try being adults, acting like adults and being adults.

  53. I have been reading the blog on and off since it has been up. Since my name has been brought into play, and my integrity questioned. I will respond.

It's true I have been a member, and an officer with the Dayton Fire Dept. for quite a few years. And I have been a member of the golfcourse since the late 80s. And yes I served on the golf board along with 4 other people. I did initially bring the proposal of the city taking over the course to the council. With no results and my term ending before the city took action. I had nothing to do with the process of the take over. I also had nothing to do with the decisions made about the golfcourse until this spring when the Park Board, (which I have been a member of for 8-10 years) was merged with the new Parks and Rec board.

I have no idea what the post at 2:10pm is implying, and why they have a problem with the Fire Dept. or me. I have not misled nor will I mislead anyone about anything that has to do with the Parks and Rec Board or the Fire Dept.

People can think what they want but, I have never wanted anything but the best for Dayton. I live here, I pay taxes here, my children go to school here, I plan to stay here so, 2:10 I hate to disappoint you. I'm not going anywhere.

  54. I thought I would check to see if anyone had replied. To Cindy Corson- I do not know you but thank you for your words of encouragement. I still do not see the benifit of moving to Dayton yet. I stopped and spoke with your police officer earlier tonight and was highly impressed by him. He had nothing but praise for the town. His professionalism was very evident. Do not loose this guy. I originally come from a large city of over 1 million people and am looking forward to the small town Iowa life. But with all that is being said and I have read the entire blog which has been posted for the entire world to see, I still am having my doubts as whether or not to pursue Dayton as a residence.

    Chad Hollister

    ReplyDelete
  55. Kevin Wickwire: Thanks for replying. I do not know where people are going or what they are really attacking but it has been interesting what people are saying lately. You and I do agree that we only want the best for Dayton.

Mr. Hollister, I agree we do have a good police department and we have wonderful emergency service departments, which is comprised of generally volunteers which is wonderful it it's self. Thanks for all of you that help the rest of us.

I find it interesting that you found this blog and would be interested in how that happened and how it is so shaping your decision to move to Dayton. I would hope that you would visit the schools, the newspaper ( by the way if you read the newspaper starting about a year ago you will see the progression of the disagreement of how tax money should be spent. This should have remained a political issue but somehow became a very personal attacking issue. The newspaper would be much easier to follow for this issue as the editor has written many of his views on this and has had contributions from others.

If I were looking for a community to raise my children, I would choose Dayton. It's a good community where a small issue has been blown completely out of porportion and for some reason is continuing. So if I were Chad Hollister or Joe Blow I would be more than happy to live here. Good luck on your writings and your future.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Chad--I, for one, LOVE Dayton, even though I am often upset by the vitirol on here and at council meetings. This, too, shall pass. The schools are awesome, the people friendly and supporting, we have some great churches, and--if nothing else--the rodeo makes for one heck of a fantabulous weekend.

If you choose not to participate in the nastiness, it is very easy to avoid. My children are completely unaware of it (except when I come home from council meetings in tears--but that hasn't happened in awhile).

Secondly--people are signing their names. I think this is a HUGE step forward.

I think that you may have made up my mind. You seem to have the best interest of the city in mind but then you belittled me by comparing me to Joe Blow. I feel now that the best interest for my family may be somewhere else.

For your information I do have a couple friends from your surrounding communities that pointed me to this site. They told me that maybe I should check it out and see how people get treated. I havespoken to several people over the past few days and I was almost convinced. Until now, I feel that this website may hurt your community as a stepping stone for those that may want to move to Dayton. And you stated "if I were Chad" you aren't so keep your opinions to yourself and be careful of how you talk to people. As for the rest of Dayton... I feel sorry for you in your big debate. Maybe someday you all will be able to encourage people tomove to your town without all the bickering. But as for my family we will not partake in your community.

  60. What's this. The site is causing people to not move into Dayton.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Well Dayton… I am appalled that something like this is happening. I know the gentleman that was upset and just so you know he was looking to open up a law firm. He has 3 children that are in elementary. His wife wanted to move back to Iowa and she grew up in the northern area of the state. He was willing to find an office and set up shop. He did have ideas of building a office building that would have added to the community. He has stated that he should get a subpoena for the website and expose all of those people, but he’s not like that. He now is looking in the Gowrie area. At least he’ll be near but we won’t get his business in town. I say good job keep them out.

    Bill Tindall

    ReplyDelete
  62. Mr. Hollister: I do wish you would reconsider and give Dayton a chance. I grew up in Dayton and graduated from the Dayton High School. I moved away after high school but came back in the late 70's (boy, does that date me!) Our 3 children went to school here and actually in the late 80's we considered moving but made the decision to stay here due in part to the people of Dayton and the fine schools. Dayton does have alot to offer for a small community......police department, volunteer fire department, rescue personnel, drs office, bank, pharmacy, grocery store, library, post office, attorney, real estate and insurance offices, eating establishments, churches, golf course, bars, weekly newspaper, Caseys, as well as numerous small businesses. All communities have some dissention but sadly ours has spilled to the worldwide web. We could use some new positive influences for our community.

We all know who contributes to this blog and who stirs up the crap in dayton--let's let THEM sign their names.

All this stuff about the "history of remaining anonymous" is valid in some ways--but Publius in ancient Greece was under threat of DEATH--that is not really an issue here in rural iowa. Games are fun--sometimes. Anyone want to come over and play pictionary? That is much more PRODUCTIVE than what is going on here

  67. It's time to shut this blog down!!

The things that are being said to and about people are getting worse, and out of control. Dayton Observer, I don't think you started this blog for this type of exchanges. This is not constructive for the city of Dayton anymore. It's the exact opposite, it's going to rip this town from the inside out.

It's already cost us one family and business. How many more will we lose before this blog is gone.

Shut it down before it's to late.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I agree in that I do not believe this negativity is what the Dayton Observer envisioned when it was started. I don't agree with censoring content but personal attacks should not be allowed to stay on the blog.

  69. Cindy personal attacks should not be allowed to stay on the blog. I hope that the Dayton Observer removes them. I don't quite understand the negativity with this blog at this time other than to cause so much trouble to shut it down. I think that is what is going on. Kendra, yes, I think that these names are not names of people all of a sudden wanting to post and sign their names. It is another game. I sure hope the person leading the game is having fun making fun of us who were falling for the fact that we would like to convince someone to come and live in Dayton. I started searching these so called names and they are very interesting what you come up with old PGA championship, person with a band that is quite interesting. I think we need to quit playing the game with these people and maybe they will leave us alone. Kendra is I could I would rather go to your house and play pictionary but I'm considered house bound and believe that isn't any fun.

I am going to try only responding to those that I know on the blog maybe the other children will go and find someone else to play with.

  70. One more comment. There are some of us that truly care about Dayton, the issues and others that live here not matter what has happened this last year. I know I don't understand some of this humor and the logic of this. I would like to go on record of encouraging the Dayton Observer to keep the blog going not matter what kind of games and things are said. It can't be any worse that is printed in any newspaper at any given time.

First of all having someone post their name on the internet is not credible at all.

Second, I certainly hope no one would decide to move to a town because of a blog that by my assumptions has two to three people spouting off for the sole purpose to stir up things or to get the blog shut down.

Lastly, I don't understand why certain people continue to stir things and simply try to hurt the community. Whether you agree or not, I believe for the most part all the people that were involved when the golf course issue started wanted what (at least they thought) was best for the community. So why don't people just stick to the issues and try to be constructive, instead of stirring up things or constantly using silly sayings that provide nothing.

By the way Thanksgiving is coming up, I suggest some people really take a hard look at things and see they have good things good in life and give thanks for that, rather than be petty.

    ReplyDelete
  72. stick to the issues. that a messed up statement. that hasn't happened yet. someone goes off on a tangent attacking people. it's just a messs on here. shut it down its only hurting not helping!

    ReplyDelete
  73. You know this blog can help, if people were actually willing to listen. Believe me there are those people out there, even some of those people are probably ones you wouldn't expect, but when everyone goes out of there way not to act is a respectful manor, that's when all hell breaks out.

    ReplyDelete
  74. TO: 8:14 am your statement is what is appearing to be a consorted effort by several of you to shut down the blog. I don't think that it is the majority of the people that utlize this blog nor is it the people who sign their "real" names that are doing any detrimental behavior that is affecting Dayton. For some reason a group has decided they want the blog shut down. I don't see this happening and I hope that is does not. Why don't you that are going to all of this work to cause problems on here and using all of your creative writing start your own blog and then go there and write whatever you want and then other's have their choice to read it or not.

I like the thought about Thanksgiving coming up and evaluating what we are thankful for. I am thankful for everyday I get to read this blog, spend time with my wonderful family and friends and that I live in Dayton, for where the most part people are friendly respectful and caring. Maybe if you stop and think about what you are thankful for you can quit posting the off the cuff things that have been posted.

  75. This blog can NOT help, simply because of the way it's set up.

Listen; I know the Messenger, Des Moines Register, MSN, etc. have annonymous blogs set up - to an extent. There are big differences between those blogs than this blog.

A). You have to register a name with an email site proven to be valid. It's not totally anonymous and if it is threatening, there's some type of small trail back to who posted.

B). There is an option to report abuse

C). Newspapers, MSN, Fox Sports, etc. have a full-time staff to monitor the site and responses.

D). The topic changes daily and is very diverse on the other sites. The topic of this blog is CONSTANTLY either the golf course or the Parks and Rec Board or the City Council. There's no real perspective about what's going on around town.

E). The Dayton Observer has proven he can not keep up with the site. Look, we're at post 80 now, most pretty damn personal and attacking. He can't monitor it routinely and he can't diplomatically monitor it to any degree.

F). Look up Cyberbullying. One of the earlier posts said, "If you don't like it, don't read it." Get Real! If you're being attacked on a public site, you're going to read it. Jr. High kids are disciplined through the schools for this type of behavior adults are showing on this site. There have been numerous publicated events of people committing suicide because of attacks put on them on social networking sites or through text messaging, etc. This is the same damn thing. D.O.; are you going to keep this up until this happens?

It's long past time to shut it down.

Sincerely; well I guess I don't have to own up to it, do I?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Let's get realistic: I am writing this because someone called me today and asked me to do this. This person does read the blog but does not type well enough to post this so they ask me to do this.

They want to know why the Dayton Observer should be asked to be shut down and we are not asking the Dayton Review to be shut down. They said that there has been more negative things written about people in the Review, and this was by an attorney, and various other's. This started about a year ago with a letter to the editor. I don't think probably most of the stuff would not have happened if this original letter wasn't written.

I am done writing about my requested quote but would like to comment some to 9:53am
    ***********************************************

Cyberbullying has to involve a minor. So what we are looing at are other things. Haven't people committed suicide for articles written about them in newspapers, magazines.

I would hope that the negative things are removed and are not to hurtful to people.

I think you can report abuses to the Dayton Observer. I have emailed concerns that I have had and they were taken care of.

Also when you are posting to the Des Moines Register articles, MSN, are usually articles that you are responding to not blogs. I had a terrible experience earlier this year to some postings on the Des Moines register site. This did involve a minor and I did go through their notification process and I did contact them personally as I felt terrible that this happened (it as not even associated with me).

I would also like to point out that most of the negative writing are written in a way that they are toying with peoples emotions and trying to make a point that this blog is running people out of town.

I noted that some posts were removed last evening and they must have been ones that needed to be.

Why does this blog bug people so much. When you guys are not posting your problems stirring things then it goes along quite nice.
So the blog is not the problem, it's the certain people posting to the blog.

I will post at a later date when there is something worth while to post. As I have said before I have kept middle of the road throughout all of this and hope to remain that way. I have not attached those who I just happen to disagree with. I could have. I have even encouraged people not to attack others on here. Because I do not feel that two wrongs do not make a right.

    ReplyDelete
  77. The difference between the Dayton Review and the Dayton Observer is we know who the owner, editor and author of articles in the Dayton Review are. Letters to the editor are signed. Agree or not agree, fact or fiction; there's a level of accountability. The Dayton Observer site has no level of accountability, even the author of the site himself.

Cyberbullying does not necessarily have to involve a minor, that's a matter of interpretation. At any rate, this is the same level of immaturity, lack of accountability and abuse. Yes, other people have committed suicide after reading other articles. That doesn't justify this as ok.

This blog is destructive to our community. Please stop

  78. i think this site is a bunch of Bull****. Kendra and Cindy I applaud your efforts in trying to get people to change. Eventually the group that wants the City to fail and go into their messed uo idea of government will meet and have the meeting of the half wit mind and come up with some other messed up thing to bitch about.

I posted the 12:36 post and the 9:53 post.
I also agree with the 2:00 post except to add, I truly think the Dayton Tiger also needs applauded for his efforts to change things. I just disagree with his support of the blog in this maner. I think, without knowing him, he's a stand up guy.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Don't anyone take this wrong but I don't think this has been a one sided posting of negatism. You may think there is a big faction or small faction of people out there that want the city to fail, I don't see any people that have wanted the city to fail. Come on the Golf Course is functioning, the people who have golfed there have been very happy. I haven't seen the latest figures but I will wait until the city clerk puts them out at the end of the year. I do hope that it did better. I cannot comment because I do not know any of the current figures and I will not comment until I see it in writing.

I'm sorry but who and why are all these people attacking others, why is the DR still writing articles like this is a new issue critizing others. Has trying to get along entered anyone's mind? The election is over and like with any other election I wish the winners the best.

I read the council and mayor had a very nice meeting the other night. Is this not possible that this can continue. Maybe we ALL should quit attacking each other. I don't really see any win win situation to how this is going with people still attacking others.

Isn't it time to move on and work on getting together and not fighting. It might surprise you all who is willing to do this. Not every one are the bad asses that they are being pointed out to being. Sorry for the language but this stuff is really starting to piss me off, everyone needs to shape up.

  81. As long as this blog is going NOTHING good will come. You people need to go to the community center, have the Council and the Park Board seated in the front of the room and get your concerns and frustations out in the open and get your questions answered. This blog should be shut down as long as there are no trails to the cyber names.

I would also suggest having your Police Chief there too. Some of you clowns get out of line I am sure you will get to see just what this man can do to restore civility!

In all fairness, I am anonymous myself, and just want to see some good things happen for this town. Bitching and complaining will get you nowhere! Stop typing and do something about it. Man up people!

  82. I don't live in Dayton anymore. I grew up there and still have family in town. I would just like to know something? When I come to town, should I wave and smile or frown and flip the bird?

  86. My goodness! I went to work and came back to this. I am going to post what I am thankful for:

That I have a faithful and loving husband and that his doctors saved his life. (Now, if he would only quit smoking....sorry honey, I had to throw that in)

That I have 4 great children and 9 glorious grandchildren, and a great grandchild on the way.

That my mother is feeling a little better and remains cancer free after treatment for colon cancer.

That my father, while we miss him terribly, did not suffer.

That my daughter who was recently diagnosed with a recurrence of her breast cancer has a positive attitude and that her doctors will heal her once again. She is an inspiration to me!

To all the negative posters........this is real life. The rest is just not that important that we should be fighting one another over.

  87. Cindy,

We do really have true things to be thankful for. Real life can be so cruel but yet it teaches us what should be the most important to us. Our loved ones and health.

Tell your husband to put away the cigarettes, I never thought I could but so far so good. It also has taken quite a bit for me to do this but I know I can keep it up.

I'll add your family to my prayers. By the way positive attitudes have been shown to really heal us so much more quickly.

Ditto to all of the negative posters......All of this is real life. It does teach you a new understanding of what is really important. The little pebbles still build up and they are important to us ( life higher taxes ) but they take a back seat to what is really important, our families, our friends, our health.

    Thanks Cindy for posting this.

Let's all post about what we are REALLY thankful for. Let's stop with the jokes for a while and reflect.

It's people that make up our community, many different types, personalities and outlooks.
I am thankful that I live in Dayton, that I have had such wonderful help from my friends whom I am blessed to have so many. That I have had help from people I don't know well. I am thankful for the emergency services. The ambulance and everyone who has helped with this. I am so fortunate to have a wonderful family that even though it's had problems and medical issues we still love and support each other. I am also thankful for those that have posted positively on this blog and are trying the help Dayton. I know some people don't agree with my thinking on this blog. But I do think in the long run if we get the negative things off, positive can start again. If you go back and read it has not always been this negative.

Let's end this side thing. I don't think anyone wants to choose sides anymore or they want to be chosen for a side. Let's just be one community working together.

  95. I've got an idea; a challenge to the Dayton Observer and all who feel this post is a great idea.

    How about this:
*post an update ONLY once a week but make sure to do it EVERY week.
*BUT - post an update / comment about the City Council ONLY on the week they are meeting that month. Do NOT post about the city coucil or city politics any other time.
*AND - only post an update / comment about the golf course only on the week the Parks and Rec Board are meeting...IF the golf course is the main topic of their meeting. Don't post about P&R or the golf course any other time
*THEN on the other weeks you post, find some other topic in Dayton to update / comment about, preferably a positive one!
*FINALLY at the end of each day delete the comments that didn't sign their name and delete ALL the comments at the end of the week, signed or not.

I don't think this blog is a great idea - I think it should shut down. The challenge I posted is a lot better than what's happening now and I think it's a little "put your money where your mouth is" about this blog having the potential to be positive and helpful means to voice opinions.

    ReplyDelete
  96. that's bulls***. it just needs to be shut down perminently. all it does is promote negativity. you all harass the city council and employees, the fire department. I bet if we start doing that the DO will start deleting the posts because they are negative towards his friends. yes i said his if you have keep up with all the posts and i mean everyone you figure it out. keep in mind that he was at some meetings and then other prople were. for the most part the one keeping the detailed notes.

    ReplyDelete
  97. 8:14 The purpose of a blog is to express opinions on various topics no matter what they are. In my mind your idea is strictly a matter of censorship. If I read it right, anyone blogging is to limit talk of golf course only during the week of park and rec meetings and council business only during council meeting week. Taking out unsigned comments daily is not realistic. If you don't like the blog, don't participate in it. Or, start your own using the above rules. Your challenge is in your opinion a lot better than what is happening now. That is your right to state your opinion. Unfortunately not everyone agrees with you which is their opion. My opinion is that there are 2 or 3 on here that are just trying to get people going, which is working rather well. If you would like to start your own blog you could use your own rules for topics and you could delete all unsigned comments. I for one like to be able to say what I want without fear of recrimination or just plain old upsetting one of my neighbors. On a lighter note: To everyone out there (whether or not you agree with my opinions)have a Happy Thanksgiving and use that day to truly think of what and whom you are thankful for.

    ReplyDelete
  98. there aint no happy this year buddy it was ruined by you guys

    ReplyDelete
  99. 10:02 pm "there aint no happy this year buddy it was ruined by you guys" Could you please explain this to me. How did anyone ruin your happy thanksgiving if it has to do with this blog. If it is because of the golf course, we have seen that the golf course is still going and that people are still golfing. The town is still functioning and the only thing I can see is that a group of people want the blog closed down. As far as I am concerned if you are not happy with this then, do not read it, don't book mark it. You could start your own blog and run in any way you want to.

As far as happy, it's all with how you look at it. If you are going to be negative you will be with anything you do.

To 8:40pm. If you go back and look at all of the past postings you will note that most of them are not about any of the cities, employee's or any of the emergency service people. The majority of negative posts were about several council members. So there have been so many posts that have been very scathing and negative about all sides that it's time to quit roping that goat and get on with life and stay with the issues that we know are factual.

    And have a Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    I really mean it.

We would love to ignore this blog and the bull**** that's posted on it. But, if we leave who knows what kind of lies would be posted on here with no one to respond. If the truth was the only thing posted on here we'd all gladly leave.

There are way more than 2-3 on here posting lies and rumors. If there was legitimate debate going on I would be all for leaving this site up. But when a person can just post anything on here without taking responsibility then it needs to be shut down.

Only about 2% of the posts on here actually have any truth to them. The rest are only speculations and out & out lies.

    ReplyDelete
  101. To 10:02: And you think I have a negative attitude? I have a feeling that some want this blog shut down for the very fact that some things might actually come out that won't look good for some. That is not a stated fact so that should not fall into the 2% of truth that 11:03 stated was the case. It is only an opinion. Start you own blog and then fill it with what you want to say. You can delete anything you don't agree with and then have it all one sided to your liking. Some out there will of course try to ruin this for all. Don't let them. Ignore them. Post a new item to talk about if you want. Don't just demand that this blog shut down because it is not going the way you feel it should. Since you seem to think this will be an unhappy year due to the blog, why not use Thanksgiving to give thanks for the fact that you can post any opinion you want and not be arrested for it. Try it in N.Korea, China, or Iran.

  104. I do have a life. It may not be as exciting as some but it's here. Also I don't just get up out of bed and check the blog, I drink some coffee first. LOL...... It's o.k. to not have a really exciting life. Sometimes boring is good.

Have a good "Turkey" Thanksgiving Day.

    ReplyDelete
  105. that's right. if it wasn't for this blog the city would be boring. what better way of showing people from outside the community that we don't want them here. Let them read this blog and they refuse to come here. as for the rest off you morons that cause all the trouble knock it off you have ruined alot of people's well being by posting your comments on the internet. have you ever thought that maybe before you post you should talk to the people first... oh wait... that's right you don't think before you speak. certain people have made this town unbearable for many. don't just blame the mayor or city employees, you too are to blame the the unhappiness in this town. several years ago this wasnt a problem, now that certain people cant get elected and you seem to want to play the "big boy" politics and mess with everybodies lives. you spread rumors that have hurt the employees, caused the city to go into debt because of the constant calls to the state and the city needs to have the lawyer answer, because he is the only qualified person to do so. you need to knock this crap off and start the new year out better. after all you have to live here too and if you choose to live in negativity and a place where you thrive on pissing people off well you have right here in Dayton or should i call it a suburb of Lehigh. people there strong arm the city all the time and get away with it. is that what you want here. there are certain people that have abused the way they aquire things from the city...i.e. boudries for golf course to certain unmetionable people's adjacent property, and sewer connections that were illegally put in. both tactics were strong arm tactics. one to benifit himself and the other because he didn't want to pay for the bill and problem that he caused. he had his friends help him on the council get him off and that has now set a presedence for the rest of the community. just complain and get your buddies on the council get you off.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I believe it takes three votes to get anything passed at the city council. So each time the council votes the whole council votes. Truth. So I don't believe one or two people can completely corrupt the council.

You know I heard how nice the council meeting went and I hope that it continues that way. If anyone would choose to do so, please go back and read all of the recent posts and see where the some of the negative posts are coming from. Why don't you all just give the council a renewed chance and see what happens. Sure lots of money has been spent on the attorney, was it all necessary probably not but that was not your decision nor mine to make.

I do not see this whole issue as one sided. I am starting to see that some people cannot give up their attitudes no matter if they have it ALL or they have nothing.

Right now all you are trying to do is shut down the blog. What real purpose other to have complete control, that is not a good idea in anything. Marriage, your job, government.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Addendum:

I do not believe everyone is trying to shut down the blog some a small faction that keeps posting with different names, but your writing styles are very very similar.

    ReplyDelete
  108. and what writing style is that? if you want to compare writing styles thenyou may want to compare the governing styles ofthe council. 2 buulies vs. the rest. it's kinda like a play ground and the city is the one that gets hurt. and i mean the city as Dayton

    ReplyDelete
  109. oh look i think it's a new record for the number of posts.....yeah!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Is there anyway I can both smile and flip the bird when I drive through the bumpy streets on my way through town?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Let me know 3:45pm when you come thru town, I will follow you and do the same!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Hope you guys are having fun!!!!posting all this about flipping the bird.

To 3:43: Let's look at the governing styles of the council members. Each of these people were elected at some point to the council by vote. There are 5 members of the council and in Dayton the Mayor is not the tie breaker if I understand this correctly. So if something is passed it takes 3 people to do it. So I don't think we can just pick any two out of the council and blame them for all the votes. I am not blaming anyone of them for their votes as they have a right to vote as they want to. Let's give them a chance after the year that they have had and see what happens. Why now have people gotten so nasty and negative even worse than before. Lighten up by some of these posts I wonder what the average age of posting is or what age is the average poster acting.
