Happy July 1st to everyone.
Today's story on the Des Moines Register's website shows how important it is to be fiscally responsible as a city. That is why I hope that we continue to receive updated financial information on all aspects of the city. We should know what lies ahead with respect to the city's financial situation, whether it is good or bad. The sooner we know, the sooner we can make informed decisions going forward. Reading this story just shows that the city of Dayton needs to be fiscally concervative. This is the reason I feel we need to continue to monitor the financials regarding the golf course very carefully. I hope that someone in monitoring these financials very closely and that they are made public as soon as possible without all of the creative accounting tidbits thrown out here and there. They talk about the state needing to stay in the red in their budget isn't this true also of the city?
ReplyDeleteI would like to be proved wrong on my opinion that as long as we have the Mayor that we have, we will never get straight answers or a line item budget for the city or golf course. I would still like to hear from him regarding some the issues that have been brought up on here. I would think since some have questioned the many things that seem vague that he as the leader of the town would at least post a response on here. He knows many people read this blog and that nothing could be taken out of context as long as it is a matter of record. We as a city need to look for ways to conserve, not spend money. He in my opinion is like most profressional politicians. Need more money, just raise taxes. It isn't my money I am spending. So Mr. Mayor, why not address these issues on here? Prove me wrong.
ReplyDeleteI have been following this saga for a long time now, I think it is time for the citizens ti see some action from our mayor. I know he is a golfer and he was elected by golfers, he named golfers to his park and rec dept. to run his golf course, but the irony in this, is he is spending taxpayers money, not golfer's money, the whole city is paying for a few's enjoyment. When is he going to level with us. No wonder you have the few that are going out and getting us the much needed information that we don't get from our elected officials. I read an article online today, that we will not see spending increase by citizens until probably 2012. Does this mean that our taxes will keep increasing to pay for the few golfers to keep playing at our expense. When is the last house built in Dayton, when have we got a new business? Answer, not in a long time. We have to change this cycle this Nov.
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day to all. The Sun is now shining so it should be a great night for fireworks.
ReplyDeleteLooking at our increases, 9% for electricity, proposed school increase and probably an increase due to needing a new well. The property taxes increasing and the possibility of a large electric/gas increase due to the environmental bill. I have heard and read all kinds of possibilities of increased costs due to this. When is it all going to end?
I agree with you Samadamslite the mayor does need to do some deep soul searching, along with the council and the parks and rec board. I think that people sometimes do not see the hardships unless they are experiencing them. It could happen to anyone at anytime in these still very serious economic times.
I would like to be optimistic in our economy but with all that is going on it is hard to continue with a positive attitude. Who would have thought a few years ago there would be openings to the retirement apartments here in Dayton. There has always been a waiting list. Is it a fluke or is it a real possibility that people are making choices where to live to conserve money.
I would like to see our community continue to survive. So please look at the true numbers when evaluating the Golf Course and what should or could be done.
Maybe we should get some real numbers at the council meeting Wed. night, it will be the end of the fiscal year. We are still waiting for some real numbers for the parks and rec board, the mayor promised that we would have and inventory, we would get some movement on how they would formulating a plan. And Cindy C. said we should just ask questions at the meeting. Go to the meeting and ask some serious question, you might be surprised what you hear. Let's hear from serious people that will run for council this year, we need some serious changes, or the tree are going to spend all our money.
ReplyDeleteI have been to many council meetings and anytime anyone asks questions, the answer is always the same. "We will look into it," or "Randy look into it." That is not a slap at Randy either. He is just doing his job as City Manager. Bluntly put, our Mayor and some of his minions on the council and the Park and Rec board want their little private golf course at the taxpayers expense. The Mayor needs to address these things without prompting from citizens. You know he and his attorney read this blog. Why can't he just be a standup guy and come forward with figures that we would like to see? Can anybody say line item budget? I for one am getting tired of being taxed out of existence so among other things a few can play golf. By the way Webster County sales tax also went up. From 6.5% to 7%. But hey, we have a golf course.
